Launching into the world of socks

I knitted my first ever sock this week! And it looks pretty good for a first-timer - we won't mention the mess I made of grafting the toe sts - it was long after my bedtime!

The pattern was the toddler socks in YARN magazine, and the yarn was a stash ball of Cleckheaton Tapestry 8ply colour 16. I think that this must have been renamed - all I can find on the Cleckheaton site is a Country Print that looks like the same colourway.

My daughter declared that she didn't want that sock (good - it's too short!), what she wants are 'big' socks - knee-highs. I don't know where she got that from - she's 3, I don't know that she reads many fashion mags yet :) So, fabulous excuse for an exploratory trip to find another YS that I'd heard of - not many around here, apparently. I entered backwards dragging pram, turned around and went 'oh...' ! So much wonderful yarn!! Lunchtime, upset baby and end-of-school pickup conspired to keep spending to a minimum, but just knowing it is only 10 mins away is enough to keep me happy ;>

Puchases:
* Shepherd Colour 4 Me in colour 4981, 3 balls
*Vogue Kintting on the go series: Socks Two
*Heirloom Jigsaw 4ply colour 27: 2 balls, colour 38: 1 ball
* this lovely card to send to a girlfriend I've known since we were on exchange together in Japan half our lives ago!

You know you're a mother when...

on hearing the child (pref. yours) beside you gagging on something, you don't bother with tissues etc - you just hold out your hand and let them regurgitate whatever it was straight onto your skin... In last night's example, 3yr old d'ter S, strawberry yoghurt, gagging prob'ly caused by 'made with real fruit!' strawberry seeds. >b

Stash Flash

So, to reveal my secrets:
We moved recently, so I had to uncover *everything*, sort it, label it and repack it all - this was my living room while I did it:

Notice the growing collection of knitmags and books up the back there??

Of course, when were packing the garage I found another bag of odd balls of yarn to add in!
Altogether, I packed 6 plastic crates: 1 of WIP, 1 of future projects, 1 of accessories/necessities, 3 of yarn!
Not bad for someone who's only been pursuing this properly for a few years!

My Very First Blog!!

And so it begins...

I hearby announce to the cyberspatial audience my intention to add another knitblog to the mix!

I am a startaholic, with lots of enthusiasm and good intentions (and a LOT of UFOs and WIPs), but not so many FOs. I love colour, variegated yarns, natural fibres, casein and bamboo needles, knitting-in-the-round to avoid seams, knitmags and big books of fabulous patterns that I'm never going to knit myself!

I am about to join the clapotis revolution - the swatch is done, the L&L rewound into balls, and needles are ready. All I need now is the time!!!

Coming up soon - stash flash, WIP, FOs, clapotis progress...

Kate, from way down under, who now has to hang out the towels ;>
