Because, really, who wants to spend their after-dinner relaxation time cleaning without some kind of altered perception???
AND when you're tipsy and the dining table has crumbs on it, there is obviously NO POINT in going to get a dishcloth to wipe them up when there is a perfectly good vacuum cleaner already powered up and sucking nicely.
(nb my inner pedant still manages to correct spelling and grammar to ensure that 'you are' is contracted correctly, even while tipsy)
Bring on the tea and chocolate - I need to sober up a little to put the sleeves on waste yarn so I can do the body of Something Navy
