Not boring mash

I give you my answer to the MOMD's green spuds:

Sautéed onion and garlic, throw in some (defrosted) cubes of chopped spinach, stir through the leftover mashed potato with a little milk to get the right consistency, and Voilà!! Green and Tasty!!

I'm Going to Make You Drool

Last night's dinner:

Smoked Salmon, Roast Beef, Tuna (tinned), Salmon (tinned), Japanese Omelette Sushi Selection.

Amazing what you can make out of a few bits in the fridge!

A delicious time was had by all, including the almost-toddler!

And my Mum and I shared the leftovers as a picnic lunch in a park by a sheltered beach today, and the finishing touch was one of these each.

Are you drooling yet?

Ok, so about the mashed potatoes..

Excellent response rate to peculiar food photo - must remember that in future! So, to clear up any lingering confusion for 2paw, Jessica, Amanda J, Blackie and Katt, allow me to elaborate:
1) MOMD was not drawing pictures with my food, because that's bad manners. Making the potatoes aqua-coloured was not bad manners, just fun.
2) Despite his efforts, food colouring did not make them taste more interesting - they were just mashed potatoes.
3) I don't hate mashed potatoes, just find them bland. I like a garlic version, or pesto on top - jazz it up a little, you know? The MOMD is a Mashed Potato Traditionalist, so when he cooks, they come out unfancy.
4) I did eat them - see 2 above.
5) I have not tried lemon on them, Blackie, but will next time!
6) Coloured food is not unknown in our house - but one of the kids' favourite uses for food colouring is in the bath - excellent diversionary tactic for use against anti-bath tantrums!
7) I love sweet potato, but the MOMD dislikes it quite decidedly.
8) the MOMD is very chuffed about getting such an audience for his artistic presentation!

Allow me to introduce the man himself:
Greetings. It is very nice of you all to entertain my WENCH so. It brightens up her days and Knights no end. This makes me happy:) My WENCH (Wife Exhibiting Nice Curvaceous Hips ) has extremely refined tastes where food is concerned. I tend to cater more for the 'family friendly' AWW culinary temptations. Bye for now. Must get back to my domestic duties. MOHD

Me again! Rest assured, I was laughing pretty loudly when he revealed the WENCH acronym!!! Ignore his martyr tone - he's just hamming it up for effect ;P
Must dash - tv time, therefore knitting time! Yay!
More news tomorrow.

I'm Not Into Mashed Potatoes

But the MOMD loves them ... on Sunday when I told him that I don't like mashed potatoes because they are boring, he decided to make me some Non-Boring Mashed Potatoes.

Then he took several pictures because he wanted me to blog about it.

Then he reminded me tonight to blog about it.

Does the phrase 'attention-seeking behaviour' waft through the ether??? :>

It never rains

but it's pouring down the minor annoyances of family life.

  • Exhibit A: V is teething - one night she wakes 8 times or so (I lost count around 3am), the next she yells for an hour or two at midnight and sleeps till 6. Repeat.
  • Exhibit B: V has a cold.
  • Exhibit C: S has a cold.
  • Exhibit D: S has conjunctivitis - unsurprising in a child with a cold who constantly checks to see whether there is anything new in her nostrils.
  • Exhibit E: J has a cold.
  • Exhibit F: all children are waking up at their ususal time.
  • Exhibit G: Daylight Saving finished on the weekend. 7am is now 6am. Now you understand Exhibit F.
It's not all bad though - I have buttermilk scones, and rhubarb and buttermilk muffins in the freezer, rhubarb and sugar waiting to be rhubarb cinnamon coconut cake, rhubarb and pear slurry (too wet to be a crumble!) in the fridge, and more rhubarb looking for a recipe :) I like rhubarb when the weather cools down. Yum.
And while putting it straight after the above greed-fest is a tad ludicrous, I am very pleased that I am now able to get into, zip up, and sit in some of my size 16 pants (no idea what the northern hemisphere equivalent is) - this means I have lost much of my pregnancy weight and 2 dress sizes!!!! I will be able to fit into some of my nice clothes for graduation!! To celebrate, I bought myself 3 long-sleeved tees from Big Double U - I am thrilled to say that this season's colours are me, me, me!!! Think deep crimson, mulberry and deep teal - AND I've seen purple everywhere!!! Oh happy happy colours!! Banish the Beige! Turf the Tan!!! No More Monochrome!!! (at least this season)
Also, the sun is shining, it is pleasant enough to sit outside should I find a housework/motherhood/other duty-free moment, and I'm going to ignore the dishes, grab a cup of tea, my sock-knitting, my iPod, and enjoy it while I can.
Ta ta!!
