My Feet Are So Pretty!!

Ta-Da!!!!
Finished Roseleaf Socks!!!

Pattern: Falling Leaves, from Knitty.com
Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock, colour 'Old Rose'
Needles: Knit Picks 2.5mm dpns (mm, pointy pointy!!)
Time taken: about 2 months; finished sock #two at snb today, immediately put them on to show off my pretty pretty socks!
Modifications: I used the Easy Toe, at the end of this article from Knitty, and used a Tubular Cast-off at the cuffs (s-t-r-e-t-c-h-y!!)
Verdict: LOVE THEM!!!

In other news:
* be very careful how you hold full bottles of cordial with slightly loose handles. Ask me how I know.
* I've been setting up my Bloglines account with all the blogs I read, but am finding it hard to remember to then go to the blogs so I can comment. I was a bad bloggy friend in Feb, am hoping to be better in March.
* Sock Knitters Pentathlon started today, 4pm local time, so after I got home from snb I (eventually remembered and) downloaded the pattern, cast-on with 2.5mm dpns - too tight, so am starting again with 2.75mm circ to try the specified Magic Loop. Fun fun fun! (nb Ravelry group link)
* But the best news of all is that my rumpus room is festooned with boxes of children's clothes, racks of freshly washed small clothes, and sorted and folded baby clothes - because we have a new niece!!! Congratulations to my sister and brother-in-law on their excellent taste in offspring - their firstborn son receives the pick of my DS's outgrown items, and now their new daughter can have all the other stuff! I am also finding a few small things like cardi, bootees and socks made for my daughter/s that will be passed on and then perhaps brought back for eventual grandchildren (in 20 or 30 years!!)

Introducing my scruffy pals

I was remiss in my social duties:
On the left we have Holly the Christmas Pirate, and on the right is Ziggy.

Holly is my first dog, whom I bought for myself at Christmas time 9 1/2 years ago - thus the name :) She is a Maltese Shih Tzu cross, with the black head and white skullcap that is very common amongst that mix. She is loving, playful, licky, territorial, smart, prefers a shower to a bath, loves really big bones, and has gradually learned not to fear children. She is also very woofy, which was not a problem where we lived before, but now that we are in a suburban house, I need to work on retraining her in that area.
ETA: I forgot to say that she only recently became a pirate - we returned from Xmas on the mainland to discover that she had glaucoma in her left eye, which in dogs is treated by removing the eye. The vet said that it develops very quickly, and is quite painful, but that she would feel much better without it. The scar healed up very nicely and she hasn't slowed down at all - sometimes she is surprised by Ziggy or the pram coming up on her left side, but otherwise piratehood it hasn't worried her at all.

Ziggy is the 6 yr old bitser son of my MIL's two housedogs, which were a Foxy X Jack Russell and a Maltese X Chihuahua X Silky Terrier X don't know what else, so his ancestry is best left a mystery! He had a dark grey zigzag down his back as a puppy, hence the name, but that has faded over time. He is a very amiable, friendly, bouncy, slightly nippy, gluttonous idiot, who is excellent with children, no matter what they try to do. His companionship has made Holly much happier when I'm working, and watching them chase each other around the backyard is enormous fun, especially since Holly is faster and corners better, but also smarter: she picks a likely point, stops and waits for Ziggy to tear past, catching him as he goes by, but in 6 years Ziggy still hasn't figured this out!!!

Viscosity (non-knitting content for the non-squeamish)

subtitled: She Loves Me, She Loves Me Snot

I am thanking the MOMD for tonight's subtitle; my lovely baby V is teething, and therefore chewing on and dribbling over everything, which frequently includes parts of me, my clothes and anything I might happen to be holding, sitting near or lying on. But what does that have to do with "snot", I see you frown at your screen. Well, V also has a cold that has been lingering in the upper respiratory tracts of several family members for over a month, and this cold has created a post-nasal drip of exactly the wrong viscosity, such that it is neither thin enough to be nothing more than a tickle, nor thick enough to be gotten rid of in a sneeze. Result: a complicated, arrythmic snuffle-snort whenever whe is trying to suck her dummy, ie sleep, or have a feed at Cafe Mum, ie me. The latter, of course, means frequent pulling off in a messy and stretching kind of way, which gets less pleasant the more often she does it, plus I get smeared with the dribble and snot.
Motherhood is so mystical sometimes.

PS the dentist did a fabulous job, as always (I love this dentist!!!), which was great, but then I found out yesterday that my dog has glaucoma in one eye, which must be removed tomorrow, which is not great. She should be more comfortable after it has all healed though, so fingers crossed for her.
PPS this is an expensive week - MOMD has his next dentist's appt on Fri, which is also the day we officially hand over large sums of money for our house - so, 2 sets of dentistry, 2 dog groomings, 1 dog operation, and one 30-year commitment. Plus arranging solicitor's fees, removalists, telephone, electricity, and carpet cleaning - make that a very expensive week!!!
PPPS Good thing I made brownies tonight, and they're gooey so you have to lick your fingers a lot afterwards....
